Debbie grew up surrounded by nature in the rolling hills of Southern California. The country beauty of her hometown and the wildlife native to it, has always inspired the self-taught artist, who has always loved all types of art. She started painting in 2002, and shortly after started painting faux finishes and murals. In 2005 she won a blue ribbon in the Southern California Fair for realistic acrylic painting of a Double Delight White Rose that was 24”x24”. Shortly after that she put her paint brushes away for a while. Then in 2018 she moved to the Northern California Sierra Nevadas and she was moved to paint again. She quickly learned watercolor, that is when she started painting animals more. The following year she started oil painting. She has really enjoyed painting with oil and has changed from realistic to more abstract, with dramatic bold brush strokes, using a pallet knife at times, and playing with more color. Lately she has enjoyed warm and cool tones, and complementary colors, especially blues and oranges. As of late she has been painting horses because she loves their movement and energy which has moved her. She’s been painting animals since about 2020, and is known for painting very expressive eyes. It’s her favorite to paint, because it shows the soul of the animal.
